VILLA STUN CITY

Aston Villa recently managed a stunning 4-2 win over Manchester city in the capital one cup. This was one of the best victories for the new manager Paul Lambert after taking over from Alex McLeish in the summer.

This was a very difficult match because they were facing the Premier league champions at their home. However, Aston Villa managed a fighting comeback in the match to comfortably win the match in the end after it went into extra time. Aston Villa were coming into the match on the back of a defeat against the newly promoted Southampton in the Premier league.

He has said that the manager Paul Lambert was extremely conscious that Aston Villa should avoid another defeat, which would have seriously dented the confidence of the team. Despite not having the best of starts in the Premier league, Aston Villa find themselves closer to the top half of the table. The midfielder Fabian Delph, from whom the manager Paul Lambert expects a lot in this season, has said that the manager gave a great speech in the half-time interval during the Manchester city match that helped the team find that little bit extra in the second half.

“The manager gave a nice speech before the game and as far as we were concerned we weren’t there to give them respect. We were there to get the win and if it ended up with us having to fight with them and play a few tricks and to twist up the game a bit, we were willing to do that. We wanted the win and we were confident we could win the game. We are hungry to do well for the club, for the chairman, for the fans and for the gaffer, especially after the defeat to Southampton. It was important to bounce back,” said Fabian Delph.
