Ashley Williams Urges Ronald Koeman to Stay at Everton
Barcelona have reportedly been taking a look at Everton manager Ronald Koeman as a potential candidate to succeed Luis Enrique, when the manager steps down from his role at the end of the season.
After the 6-1 win over Sporting Gijon, Enrique announced that he would leave the club at the end of the campaign. It comes as no major surprise considering that there have been several rumours concerning the manager over the last few months. Enrique has only fuelled the rumours by staying silent about his future up until now. Now that his decision has been revealed, Barcelona are on the lookout for a new manager once again.
Ronald Koeman, Jorge Sampaoli, Mauricio Pochettino, and Ernesto Valverde are some of the names linked with the managerial job in the summer. Since Barcelona always prefer a candidate who has previous experience of being involved with the club, there is a high likelihood ofKoeman being offered the job, despite the 53-year-old having moved to Everton only in the summer.
Koeman came to English football with Southampton and has steadily interest everyone with his incredible tactical ability and nous. He has been able to improve Everton substantially this season. Defender Ashley Williams, though, has urged the manager to remain at Goodison Park, as he believes that the club are on to something great under the Dutchman.
“For me personally and the lads, we obviously hope he stays. He’s started building a team here and we’re all confident the future looks good for Everton. But he might have his own ambitions. I can’t speak for what he wants from his managerial career but from our point of view, definitely we enjoy working with him,” said the former Swansea defender, who came to the club only in the summer for around € 14 million.
